Frequently Asked Questions

The vestibular system is made up of parts of the inner ear and brain that control eye movements and balance. When there is something wrong with these structures, which may be due to ageing or disease, people often describe feelings of dizziness or vertigo. Ongoing symptoms of dizziness or vertigo should always be discussed with your doctor in the first instance.
Most people with Parkinson’s disease are managed by a neurologist (a doctor who specialises in neurological conditions) as medications are very important to ensure the disease is managed most effectively. Usually a whole team will be involved, including allied health professionals such as a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist who can help maintain or improve your mobility, function, speech and swallowing.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a condition affecting the nervous system causing nerve impulses to slow down thereby affecting body movements and strength of muscles. Whilst there is no cure for MS, with the correct medications and physical treatments, such as stretching, strength training or hydrotherapy, the condition can be slowed and managed. Lifestyle modification such as temperature regulation and fatigue management advice is also an important part of the overall management of MS.

In Australia, a referral is not required to be able to see an allied health professional, although it is often helpful for you to bring as much information about your health history as well as any specific medical or surgical details that relate to your reason for seeking help. There are a few exceptions to this, where you will need to obtain a referral from your GP prior to attending our clinic. This includes:

  • Workers Compensation Claims
  • CTP (Third Party) Road Accident Claims
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Claims
  • Medicare Claims (e.g. Chronic Disease Management referral)
