Eating well, feeling strong and fit and having good mental health are all crucial for optimising your cancer treatment outcomes and quality of life. Allied health professionals, such as dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapist and exercise physiologists, play an important role in helping you achieve these things.

Our dedicated team of allied health professionals are available to support you during and after your cancer treatment. We work with you to develop an individualised cancer rehabilitation plan, designed to meet your specific needs, and exceed your expectations. Sessions can be one on one or in small group classes.

Through your Ramsay Health Plus Cancer Rehabilitation Plan you may be supported by:

  • Dietitians, for nutritional assessment and advice
  • Physiotherapists, to assist with pain, tissue tightness and deconditioning
  • Exercise Physiologists, to support your exercise routine
  • Speech pathologists, to assist with swallowing problems
  • Lymphoedema therapists

Our team will help you feel strong and energised, reducing the side effects during treatment and empowering you in your recovery.

You don’t need to have received your cancer treatment at a Ramsay Hospital to access Ramsay Health Plus.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a large amount of evidence supporting exercise for the prevention of cancer, and also as an adjunct to cancer treatment and recovery. Physiotherapists and exercise physiologists are experts in exercise prescription and work with patients and their doctors to provide an individualised exercise program to assist patients throughout their cancer journey.
Evidence continues to mount that exercise during or following a cancer diagnosis is associated with improved quality of life and survival. The Clinical Oncology Society of Australia states 'Exercise should be embedded as part of standard practice in cancer care.... and be viewed as an adjunct therapy that helps counteract the adverse effects of cancer and its treatment'. In Australia, a referral is not required to be able to see an allied health professional, although it is often helpful for you to bring as much information about your health history as well as any specific medical or surgical details that relate to your reason for seeking help. There are a few exceptions to this, where you will need to obtain a referral from your GP prior to attending our clinic. This includes:

  • Workers Compensation Claims
  • CTP (Third Party) Road Accident Claims
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Claims
  • Medicare Claims (e.g. Chronic Disease Management referral)
